Someone links a repo that looks useful, and the reflex is to skim the README and start copying. That goes wrong three ways: you rebuild something you already have (sometimes something you already pay for in a shipped dependency), you import a license obligation the destination can't satisfy, or you paste another stack's idioms in and spend longer untangling them than writing it yourself. The license one isn't answerable in the abstract — the same inbound file is fine in one of these repos and a real problem in another. "Is this repo any good?" isn't the question; "can *this* repo take *this* piece, and is it even new here?" is.
